* You can read more texts in DVD-ROM"Butoh-Kaden"! Butoh-Fu is a document that I have organized from my notes from the sessions of choreography and spoken words of Tatsumi Hijikata, my master. The sentences may sound like poetry, however, each word represents a specific dance form, movement, and its relation to the body. I have chosen 88 Butoh-Fu out of all, and arranged them into seven worlds according to the meaning of each Butoh- Fu. As a result, this "Map of Butoh-Fu Titles" is made. The lower part of the screen is a shapeless, wet and dark world. Higher up there continues a realm more distinctly formed, dryer, and lighter. Higher yet there continues a world where a form is decomposed into particles and nerves, and then loses its outline as if melting into outer space. "World of Anatomy" is as shapeless as magma. It is a previous condition to the formation of life which molds itself into a human form. In "World of Burnt Bridge", a human shape is barely formed out of chaos. In "World of Wall", we recognize the difference in the texture of the materials, such as soil, stone, or sand, and acquire a sense of perspective, such as density, and the reverse or back side of things. Then in "World of Birds and Beasts" various complex forms are developed. From there, the outline of a form dissipates in two directions. If it moves through "World of Flowers", the outline grows dim, spreads and becomes particles. If it continues through "World of Neurology", a branch of nerves finely splits, multiplies, and extends into space. Then particles and nerves that have further advanced their decomposition reach "World of Abyss", and gradually become space or light itself. As mentioned before, each Butoh- Fu, while dealing with wide ranged worlds and individually changing nuances, organically links to each other.
