Tatsumi Hijikata was the founder of Butoh,
which is representative of modern Japanese art. Well known as
a dance prodigy, he also devised and went on to found “BUTOH-FU
("FU" means score in Japanese),” his original concept
of shoreography. Even after his death, the methodology of BUTOH-FU
was not known to the public until Yukio Waguri, who grew as
a dancer under the choreography of Hijikata, released Hijikata's
instructions as "BUTOH-FU passed down by Hijikata"
as a CD-ROM in 1988. (This had been entrusted to Waguri by Hijikata.)
This "Butoh-Kaden" CD-ROM, released by Justsystem
Corporation as a cultural trailblazer, received great acclaim
and it is now widely recognized that Hijikata Butoh is, in fact,
BUTOH-FU. In addition, the methodology of BUTOH-FU has inspired
those involved in expressive and creative activities both in
Japan and overseas.
To hand down its value as a reference material, as well as its
impact on creative activities, to following generations, this
DVD-ROM version is being newly released by nousite, inc. We
sincerely hope that this seed of Butoh, as passed down from
Hijikata to Waguri, and now to you, will bear large fruit.

In
folder Part1, 88 Butoh-fu are introduced from Yukio's old notebook.
Butoh-fu texts may sound poetic, but each word represents a
specific dance form, movement, and relationship between the
body and the space. Many picutures quoted in the text and other
Butoh-fu related tothe Butoh-fu by a certain keyword are linked
to each other so that 88 titles are not separated but compose
a big database linking like a big web. |
Here is anExample of
"Butoh-fu" inspirated by painting of Debuffet....

YOU LIVE BECAUSE INSECTS
EAT YOU
A person is buried in a wall. He becomes an insect that
dances on a thin sheet of paper. it makes rustling noises,
trying to hold falling particles. The insect then becomes
a person, so fragile that he could crumble with the slightest
touch, who is wandering around. |
